Keeping Up with Industry Challenges - a Western Perspective
Todd J. Applegate, PhD is a Professor, Extension Poultry Specialist, and Graduate Programs chair in the Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University and is responsible for translational research and tools for the poultry industry to minimize environmental impacts and sustain the competitiveness of the industry in the US and abroad.
Prior his current appointment, he obtained degrees in animal sciences from Ohio State and Iowa State Universities, and afterwards as a research associate at the University of Maryland. Since 2000, his active research program complements his outreach program by providing readily applicable research answers to everyday management and nutrition questions by the poultry industry. Additionally, his research explores mechanisms of nutrient and pathogen interaction within and with the gastro-intestinal tract to ultimately improve nutrient absorption and retention. Todd has leadership roles as the current First Vice President for the Poultry Science Association, member of the US Coordinating Animal Nutrition Committee of State Agricultural Experiment Stations, and past-chair of a USDA working group to minimize impact of animal agriculture on the environment.
